The ongoing tensions between the USA and Iran are pushing the oil price further upward, while the effects at German gas stations remain limited for the time being.
For days, the oil price has been gaining ground on the international markets. The trigger is sharp rhetoric between the USA and Iran, fueling fears of a military escalation in the Persian Gulf region. At the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important sea routes for global oil trade, there had been repeated threats and countermeasures in recent weeks.
At the pumps in Germany, this increase has so far hardly been noticeable. According to the ADAC, prices for Super E10 and diesel are currently at a level only slightly higher than the previous month. The reason: local retailers have so far not mirrored the optimism on the crude oil markets to the same degree.
