After Iranian missiles struck a US base in Jordan, oil prices rose again on Wednesday, having previously fallen for three consecutive trading days.

Attack in the night

According to US regional command Centcom on the platform X, all projectiles were intercepted, without specifying the target of the attacks. According to the US news portal Axios, Iranian missiles were aimed at a US base in Jordan during the night of Wednesday. The incident comes during a phase in which the US and Iran had temporarily suspended their mutual attacks, which had previously caused oil prices to fall.

The Brent crude grade had risen at times to over $100 per barrel the previous week. With the current flare-up of tensions, part of the price premium returned as market participants reassessed the risks for transporting oil through the Strait of Hormuz. Analysts at RBC Capital Markets pointed to the ongoing threat of missiles, mines, and drones from Tehran.
