Vienna, June 02, 2026

Starting Wednesday, Vienna's Albertina will be showing around a dozen parodistically distorted masterpieces by comedian Otto Waalkes under the title "Otto meets Albertina," which combine classics by Albrecht Dürer, Egon Schiele, and Gustav Klimt with the Ottifant.

High Culture Meets Comedy

The exhibition marks an unusual bridge between high culture and comedy: at the invitation of the Albertina, which is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year, Otto Waalkes has changed genres and parodistically reworked twelve well-known artworks from the collection. The institution, which according to its own statements receives more than one million visitors annually, sees this as a deliberate signal for more lightness.
