According to its own plans, Porsche says it can get by with fewer than 200,000 vehicle sales per year if the automaker reduces costs within the VW (Volkswagen (VW) vz) Group, increases the share of luxury models and passes on higher prices.

Porsche's sales forecast is therefore well below expectations. Michael Leiters said in early October at a capital markets day that the automaker wanted to reach its profit threshold with fewer than 200,000 sales per year. The figure was confirmed by several sources.

A central component of the plan is cost savings. Porsche is also relying on a greater share of luxury models and on supporting revenue with higher prices. This is intended to improve results, even though the company expects lower sales than anticipated.
