The Portuguese national team beat Croatia 2:1 in the World Cup round of 16 played on Friday evening in Toronto, in a match marked by the commemoration of striker Diogo Jota, who died in a road accident exactly one year ago.
The match, valid for the round of 16 of the World Cup and broadcast live on Servus TV starting from 1:00 a.m. Vienna time, was preceded and accompanied by numerous tributes to the former Liverpool striker, who died on 3 July last year in a car accident. In the stands, Portuguese supporters brought white balloons to be released during the game, with a collective moment of remembrance scheduled for the 21st minute, in reference to the shirt number Jota had worn at the English club and which was subsequently retired.
