A joint study by the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) and the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) has found that inflation-adjusted list prices for electric cars in Germany fell by 18 percent between 2020 and 2025, while comparable combustion engine vehicles became about 24 percent more expensive nominally.
For the report, the researchers evaluated more than 100,000 individual entries from a database of the German automobile club ADAC. The analysis, titled "Price and market trends of battery electric and internal combustion engine vehicles in Germany, 2020–2025," records list prices, vehicle mass, engine power, battery capacity, and electric range across six vehicle segments. According to the authors, the methodology compares the same or comparable models over time and therefore not "apples with pears," as Patrick Plötz from Fraunhofer ISI explained.
