Istanbul, Turkey — May 14, 2026

A pro-Palestinian aid flotilla has departed from Turkey with more than 50 ships carrying activists from 40 countries, aiming to breach Israel's longstanding naval blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Flotilla Composition and Mission

The "Global Sumud Flotilla" includes vessels carrying humanitarian supplies intended for Gaza, where Israel and Egypt have enforced a blockade since 2007. Organizers say the mission seeks to deliver aid directly to the conflict zone, bypassing restrictions they argue exacerbate humanitarian crises.

Activists aboard the ships come from diverse international backgrounds, reflecting widespread solidarity with Palestinian causes. The flotilla’s size—over 50 vessels—marks one of the largest coordinated attempts to challenge the blockade in recent years.
