Protests in Nanyuki: One killed in demonstration against US Ebola facility

According to the authorities involved, the quarantine station is nearly complete and is to have more than 50 isolation beds. It is managed by US personnel and built at US expense. The planned facility

President William Ruto defended the project last week, pointing to relations between Kenya and the United States. Kenyan security forces were on heightened alert on the day of the protests. Eyewitnesses reported that security personnel used tear gas against demonstrators who approached the site. There were initially no official figures on injuries among the protesters or on the specific measures used.

International observers, including representatives of aid organizations, called for de-escalation. They pointed out that transparent communication about the purpose of the facility, about safety precautions, and about the handling of potential patients could build trust in the affected region. At the same time, concern grew that violence at future protests could escalate further if the court decision and the concerns of local residents went unheeded.
