The Rector of the Medical University of Vienna, Markus Müller, has warned of a setback in the funding of domestic universities and pointed to a looming gap of 190 million euros within the responsible ministry in 2028.

In a statement on the current budget development in the higher education sector, Markus Müller, Rector of the Medical University of Vienna, is raising the alarm. Should the federal government merely carry forward the current budget, a gap of around 190 million euros will arise within the ministry's portfolio for the year 2028 alone. According to Müller, this threatens universities with a setback rather than the increase in funding that has been announced for years.
