US intelligence chief John Ratcliffe has urged the Kremlin to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine, according to consistent reports from multiple media outlets.
The director of the US foreign intelligence service CIA, John Ratcliffe, reportedly turned directly to Moscow and pointed to the necessity of diplomatic talks. The background is the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, which continues despite international sanctions and diplomatic initiatives. Details of the contact have not been officially confirmed so far.
The reports come amid a phase of growing tensions between Washington and Moscow. At the same time, European allies are seeking ways to increase pressure on Russia without risking a direct military confrontation with the Kremlin. EU Council President António Costa, during a visit to Kyiv, stressed that pressure on Russia must be maintained until the killing ends.
