Kyiv, July 6, 2026
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of new airstrikes on Ukraine immediately before the NATO summit in Ankara and criticized the attacks as a deliberate provocation.
Zelensky stated that the attacks were an expression of Russian President Putin's strategy. "This is entirely Putin's style – immediately after the American Independence Day (on July 4) and before the NATO summit in Ankara," he wants "to cause even more destruction and kill people," Zelensky said.
Background of the Attacks
The attacks reportedly took place during the night of July 5. In Kyiv and other parts of the country, air raid alerts were issued according to Ukrainian sources. Zelensky spoke of new Russian airstrikes on Ukraine without mentioning specific casualty figures or targeted sites in his statement.
