Austria's Council for Research, Science, Innovation, and Technology Development (FORWIT) has proposed drafting a national strategy for dealing with students from third countries.
The Council for Research, Science, Innovation, and Technology Development (FORWIT) has proposed drafting a strategy for dealing with students from third countries. Chair Thomas Henzinger justified the move on Monday in remarks to the Austria Presse Agentur (APA) by citing the growing number of international students and a series of unresolved structural questions at the universities.
The number of students from abroad is currently rising continuously and roughly offsets the decline in Austrian students. These students are often used by universities to meet the targets set out in their performance agreements — for example with regard to the number of students actively taking exams. For Henzinger, this is the wrong motivation: Das sei aber die vollkommen falsche Motivation, wie man mit diesen Leuten umgehen müsste.
