Taliabu, June 12, 2026
A 44-year-old woman was killed on the Indonesian island of Taliabu in the province of North Maluku by a 7.8-meter-long reticulated python as she was heading to a nearby plantation to round up cattle on Tuesday.
The woman left her home on Tuesday to round up cattle at a nearby plantation but did not return, as authorities reported. When her husband went looking for her, he discovered the 7.8-meter-long python coiled around his wife's body, attempting to swallow her. Part of her body was already in the reptile's mouth when he found the two of them.
As local police chief Adnan Kashogi confirmed to broadcaster CNN Indonesia, the man killed the animal with a sharp tool and freed his wife. "Jedoch sei jede Hilfe zu spät gekommen" – the 44-year-old could no longer be saved.
