Two-time luge world champion and two-time Olympic silver medalist Jonas Müller announced his retirement from active competitive sports on Sunday at the age of 28.

The Vorarlberg native announced his decision in an interview with KURIER. "The hunger for success has diminished, it's the right time to start a new chapter away from competitive sports," Müller said. He had realized last season that luge no longer brought him the same joy as it used to.

Müller's career was marked by extraordinary successes. In 2019, he became sprint world champion in Winterberg, and in 2023, he became world champion in the singles event in Oberhof. At the Olympic Games at the Cortina Sliding Centre, he won silver in the singles and with the team relay. In January, he also secured the European Championship title for the third consecutive time.
