Hessen and the arms company Rheinmetall are expanding Kassel-Calden Airport into a so-called "Defence Hub Nordhessen" and are investing several hundred million euros in the process, as Minister-President Boris Rhein announced.
The expansion of Kassel Airport into a logistics hub for military transports and defense logistics forms the core of the "Defence Hub Nordhessen" concept. According to the state of Hessen, Rheinmetall intends to bundle logistics, maintenance, and distribution of military equipment there, among other things. The project is part of a larger program through which Hessen aims to expand its role in the defense industry.
