Vienna, May 22, 2026

National Council President Walter Rosenkranz appointed Roland Weinert as the new parliamentary director, with his term beginning on August 1, 2026.

Roland Weinert was selected from eleven applicants by a four-member commission as the sole 'highly qualified' candidate. The 50-year-old lawyer from Linz will lead the parliament, which employs around 500 staff members.

Weinert most recently worked in the economic sector and has a long career spanning various ministries. He began as a cabinet member for former Vice Chancellor Susanne Riess-Passer and later worked in the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Federal Ministry for Public Service and Sports.

From late 2017 to 2019, Weinert served as Secretary-General and, at times, Chief of Staff to Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache. This experience in high-ranking public administration roles qualified him for the new position.
