The US chip manufacturer Nvidia is reportedly considering acquiring the AI platform Hugging Face for around $13 billion, while Nvidia most recently demonstrated its enormous financial strength with quarterly revenue of $96.2 billion.

The takeover rumors come amid an unprecedented boom in the artificial intelligence market. Should the deal actually go through, it would be one of the largest acquisitions ever made by a semiconductor manufacturer in the AI sector. Industry observers see the move as an indication that the major chip producers are increasingly trying to secure access to important developer platforms and model libraries.

Hugging Face has evolved over the past years into a central hub for AI developers worldwide. On the platform, thousands of pre-trained models, datasets, and applications are shared and jointly developed further. For Nvidia, access to this community and the models gathered there could be strategically extremely valuable, since many of these models are trained and run on Nvidia's graphics processors.
