A Russian attack near Kyiv killed at least 27 people, the regional governor said on Saturday, prompting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to announce accountability measures against two state-company officials.
The strike hit the town of Vyshneve in the Kyiv region, according to Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the regional military administration. Tkachenko said the death toll had risen to at least 27 as rescue and recovery operations continued. Search teams and emergency services were working through the site to locate survivors and recover remains, he added.
In remarks carried by Ukrainian media, Zelenskyy said two officials from state-owned companies had illegally permitted the storage of weapons at the Vyshneve site. Among the companies implicated was Ukroboronprom, described in the reporting as Ukraine's largest arms producer. Zelenskyy said the officials responsible would be held accountable, without elaborating on the legal process.
