A Russian attack on a grain freighter sailing under the flag of Guinea-Bissau in the Black Sea near Odessa has cost five crew members their lives according to Ukrainian sources, while a simultaneous airstrike on the Zaporizhzhia region killed at least two more.

Attack on the freighter

According to the Ukrainian Navy, five crew members were killed in the shelling of the grain freighter. A further eight crew members are being treated in hospital in the port city of Odessa, as a dpa report states: „und acht Crew-Mitglieder im Krankenhaus in der Hafenstadt Odessa behandelt."

The fate of five other crew members is unclear according to the authorities. The search for them is ongoing, it was said from Kyiv. A fire broke out on board, „in dessen Folge mindestens fünf Mannschaftsmitglieder gestorben seien."
