Russian airstrikes hit the Ukrainian capital Kyiv as well as other cities overnight into Monday; the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra (Kyjiw-Petschersk-Lawra) cave monastery, part of the UNESCO World Heritage, caught fire and at least five people were killed.

The Ukrainian capital Kyiv became the target of massive Russian attacks overnight into Monday. A correspondent for the German press agency dpa reported that nearly two dozen explosions had been heard in the city center within just a few hours, likely triggered by air defense. Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced on Telegram that several districts had been hit. Some 140,000 residents of Kyiv were temporarily left without electricity.
