A Russian drone struck a residential building in Galati, Romania, early Friday, injuring two people and causing a fire, according to Romania's defense ministry.

The drone, identified as a Geran 2 of Russian origin, crashed into the roof of the building in the Stirex-Mazepa neighborhood, near the border with Ukraine.

The incident occurred at around 1 a.m. Brussels time, during an overnight Russian attack on neighboring Ukraine.

Two people were injured in the drone strike, which caused a fire and minor damage to the building.

The Romanian defense ministry stated that the entire load of the Geran 2 drone exploded upon impact, causing the fire and injuries.

International Response

Romania's defense ministry described the situation as 'dynamic', and two F-16 aircraft were scrambled in response to the incident.
