Sumy, July 11, 2026

In a Russian glide bomb attack on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy on July 11, 2026, four residents were killed and at least 17 others injured, including a girl.

According to the mayor of Sumy, Artem Kobsar, four residents of the city died after the dropping of glide bombs. Kobsar shared the information in a video on his Telegram channel. Among the dead was also a girl, he said.

The Ukrainian Air Force had previously reported overnight that Russia had fired six ballistic missiles, six cruise missiles, and 121 drones at the country. Of these, two cruise missiles and 111 drones were shot down, according to the Air Force. The glide bomb attack on Sumy followed this overnight report.

The head of the Sumy Military Administration, Oleh Hryhorow, later stated that the number of injured had risen to 17. Hryhorow also wrote that a bus stop had been hit in the attack. Local authorities warned of further attacks.

Kobsar's video shows a bomb crater in the asphalt as well as a shredded minibus in a residential area. Glide bombs are dropped by aircraft far from the front line and then glide several kilometers to their target. Although they are guided, they are not considered particularly precise.
