Advertising is also usually not done with technical data, but with buzzwords such as "revolutionary", "space technology" or "developed by experts". Supposed test seals without a traceable origin should also raise suspicion, the Chamber warned. Such advertising elements serve above all to disguise the devices' lack of technical substance.

AK consumer protection expert Bettina Pichler recommends that consumers take a critical look at corresponding offers. It is implausible that small devices could strongly cool down entire rooms within a few seconds. Pichler works as a consumer protection expert at the Salzburg Chamber of Labour.

Anyone who is unsure should seek advice from a specialist retailer, the AK expert stressed. In addition, platforms such as Watchlist Internet or Trustpilot can provide information on already known problems with a provider. Anyone who has already placed an order and has doubts should contact the consumer protection centre of the Chamber of Labour.

The warning comes at a time of high temperatures in Austria, during which demand for cooling devices is rising noticeably.
