The Saudi-led military coalition has bombarded the Yemeni coastal city of Mocha on the Red Sea with airstrikes, after the Houthi militia had taken control of large parts of the coastal region along the Bab al-Mandab strait the previous week.
The Houthi militia had seized control of large parts of the Yemeni coast on the strategically important Bab al-Mandab strait following a lightning offensive last week. The Bab al-Mandab strait connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and is considered one of the world's most important shipping lanes. According to international maritime observers, the expansion of Houthi-controlled territory has further aggravated the security situation on this route.
