Austria's Labor and Social Minister Korinna Schumann (SPÖ) has proposed shortening the exemption period during which young mothers with asylum status are not required to participate in mandatory integration measures, from three to two years.
The minister's proposal envisions reducing the so-called exemption period in the Integration Obligations Act from three to two years. During this period, young mothers with asylum status are currently exempt from mandatory measures such as German courses or AMS (Public Employment Service) programs, in order to allow them to care for their young children. In the future, this exemption is to apply only for two years after the birth of the child.
