The 30-year-old Styrian Sebastian Ofner fought back from a 1:2 set deficit to beat Serbia's Hamad Medjedovic in five sets in the first round of the Wimbledon Championships.

Ofner, who is unseeded in the rankings, needed 2 hours and 53 minutes against the eight-years-younger Medjedovic before the deciding set, won 6:4, 6:3 and 6:4, sealed his place in the second round. After a one-sided first set (1:6) for the Serb, the Austrian fought his way back and took sets two through five in tightly contested fashion. The final scoreline from Ofner's perspective read 1:6, 6:2, 4:6, 6:3, 6:4.

Medjedovic's strong start against Ruud

Medjedovic had caught the eye in qualifying with a strong performance, knocking out Norway's Casper Ruud, seeded eleventh, by 6:4, 6:2, 7:6 (7). That notable result against a top-ten player had seen Medjedovic head into the duel with Ofner as a dangerous outsider. Ofner, however, held the upper hand in the decisive phases and drew on his experience on grass.
