Berlin, June 01, 2026
According to consistent media reports, American tennis icon Serena Williams is planning a comeback at the WTA tournament in Berlin.
As reported by Deutsche Presse-Agentur and Bild newspaper, the 23-time Grand Slam champion wants to play at the grass tournament in Grunewald. It would be her first appearance in the German capital in 18 years.
The tournament takes place from June 13 to 21 and is considered important preparation for the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament. Williams bid farewell to the big tennis stage in 2022 at the US Open.
Evasive Statements and Initial Hints
Rumors of a possible comeback already surfaced last year after the 44-year-old registered for doping tests again. In January, she remained evasive about a return.
Williams said at the time: "It's neither a yes nor a no. I don't know, I'll just wait and see what happens." Now, the decision seems to have been made.
