In a serious traffic accident on the federal highway 417 near Hünstetten in the Rheingau-Taunus district, three people were injured in the night leading into Sunday, two of them with life-threatening injuries.

According to current findings, a Mercedes was traveling on the B417 toward Limburg at around 4:30 a.m. when the accident occurred in the course of an overtaking maneuver. For reasons yet unknown, the vehicle left the road, overturned, and ultimately slammed head-on into a tree.

Sequence of the accident

The force of the impact was so great that the engine was torn from the vehicle, according to the fire department. "Die Front des Wagens sei durch den Baum „förmlich gespalten" worden, hieß es von der Feuerwehr. The two front occupants – the driver and the front passenger – were trapped in the completely destroyed wreckage.
