Serious accident on the B417 near Hünstetten: Three injured after overtaking maneuver

The front passenger was unconscious, the fire department reported. According to the information, rescue workers freed the driver and the front passenger from the car wreckage after about 20 minutes.

A third occupant in the back seat was able to free himself from the vehicle together with the first responders. He was seriously injured.

Rescue operations and injuries

According to police, the driver and the front passenger were in life-threatening condition. Both were airlifted by rescue helicopters to hospitals in Wiesbaden and Mainz. The seriously injured rear passenger also received medical treatment.

There are no confirmed findings so far regarding the cause of the accident. Police have commissioned an expert to reconstruct the crash. Why the vehicle left the road during the overtaking maneuver is the subject of the ongoing investigation.

Cause and closure

The B417, colloquially also known as the "Hühnerstraße," remained fully closed for more than three hours following the accident. The road was not reopened until the recovery and investigation work had been completed.

Emergency services on scene

The fire department and rescue services were deployed in large numbers, according to their own statements. In addition to the rescue helicopters, police units and the road maintenance authority were also on site at the accident.

Hünstetten is located in the Rheingau-Taunus district in Hesse. The B417 connects the region with Limburg and runs through the western part of the Taunus.
