Sequence of the accident

Initial medical care was provided at the scene of the accident before the crew of the rescue helicopter Christophorus 99 transported the seriously injured girl to the children's hospital in Linz. Following her admission, the seven-year-old was placed in an artificial deep sleep in order to stabilize her treatment.

The accident site is located in the locality of Altlassing in the municipality of Lassing, directly on the state road L740, which is also known as the Lassingerstraße. The route connects several localities and, according to police, is also regularly used by students traveling by bicycle.

Rescue and medical care

Investigations into the exact circumstances of the accident are ongoing. Among other things, police are examining how the two sisters managed to reach the roadway and whether visibility conditions or other factors played a role. According to information from the emergency services, it was daylight at the time of the collision.

The 69-year-old driver was, based on current findings, uninjured. After the initial medical care of the child, she was questioned by police. An alcohol test was conducted according to information from the executive, but the result was initially not made public.

The injured girl's 14-year-old sister was physically uninjured, according to police. Following the accident, she was looked after by a patrol and later handed over to her legal guardians. A crisis intervention team was also called in.

Investigations and further steps

The children's hospital in Linz, to which the girl was flown, has its own trauma surgery department for seriously injured patients. Treatment in an artificial deep sleep enables the medical staff to support the body's own regeneration and to prepare necessary interventions.

Accidents involving children on state roads in Styria have repeatedly been the subject of discussions about traffic safety. In the Liezen region, several serious bicycle accidents have been recorded in recent years, prompting calls for more speed checks and structural measures.
