The fear of a regional expansion of the conflict between the US and Iran is growing, after US airstrikes on Iranian targets on the seventh consecutive night were accompanied by reports of explosions in Saudi Arabia and Jordan, and with Iran's Revolutionary Guard and Yemen's Houthis threatening attacks on neighboring states.
According to the US military, the latest wave involved strikes on Iranian surveillance facilities, underground weapons depots and other military infrastructure. US Central Command (Centcom) declared the strikes in the early morning hours (CEST) finished. Shortly before, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard had announced via state broadcaster Press TV that it had shot down a US drone in the area of the city of Bushehr – Centcom rejected this account. Press TV also reported, citing the Revolutionary Guard, that two oil tankers had caught fire in the south of the Strait of Hormuz; Centcom described this information as false.
