A severe thunderstorm front swept across North Rhine-Westphalia and parts of Lower Saxony on Friday evening, prompting hundreds of emergency calls, disrupting rail traffic, and forcing the temporary evacuation of a major music festival.

The German Weather Service (DWD) issued an official severe weather warning (level 3 of 4) early in the evening for areas in southwestern Lower Saxony and northern North Rhine-Westphalia. Meteorologists forecast locally heavy rainfall of up to 40 liters per square meter within a short period, with some areas potentially seeing up to 30 liters.
