The fast-fashion group Shein has reportedly lost billions in market value after tightened regulations in important sales markets called into question the business model built on low prices.

The Chinese-influenced online fashion retailer Shein, which had grown rapidly in Europe and the US in recent years, has lost a significant portion of its market value, according to financial circles. The trigger was said to be a series of regulatory changes affecting, among other things, the customs treatment of small shipments, product oversight, and sustainability obligations.

Shein, which in 2023 announced an initial attempt at an initial public offering in London and later shifted the location to Singapore, had faced an increasingly critical stance from regulators in recent months. The tightening hits the company's core promise – very affordable fashion in fast cycles – hard.
