Shots fired from moving car in Vienna: Two incidents overnight, no injuries

Second incident in the 12th district

A short time later, at around 3:25 a.m., another incident occurred: On Längenfeldgasse in the 12th district, a 35-year-old Viennese man was reportedly approached by three unidentified men from a vehicle. The trio is said to have offered him narcotics for purchase. "He declined," police reported. One of the unidentified men is then said to have threatened him with a firearm.

According to police, the 35-year-old managed to flee and alerted the emergency services. Shortly afterward, the operations center also received several reports of shots being heard, all in connection with the incident on Längenfeldgasse. An immediately launched search initially yielded no results.

Vehicle secured: Airsoft pellets found

In the course of a renewed search, police were able to locate the vehicle allegedly used. As the officers determined, it is a rental car. Inside the vehicle, the officers secured several airsoft pellets. This reinforced the suspicion that an airsoft weapon was used in the crimes.

In Vienna, unidentified individuals threatened several people with an airsoft weapon and in some cases also fired shots. According to the current state of the investigation, the incidents on Webgasse and on Längenfeldgasse involve similar sets of facts. Whether there is a connection between the crimes was the subject of the ongoing investigation.

Investigations are in full swing

"The investigation into the as-yet-unidentified suspects is fully underway," the Vienna Police stated. "Die Ermittlungen laufen auf Hochtouren." Of the suspects, there was still no trace, it was further said. The search launched immediately after the incident on Webgasse also remained unsuccessful.

Police are calling on witnesses to come forward with information. Observations from the affected districts in the early morning hours as well as information about the sought rental vehicle are particularly relevant.
