High Price Per Suitcase
The Geneva-based IT service provider Sita puts the annual costs to airlines from lost or damaged baggage at around 6.3 billion US dollars and sees considerable room for improvement in data networking. On average, costs of around 260 dollars (just under 230 euros) arise per item of baggage, the service provider Sita in Geneva writes in its new baggage report.
According to Sita's calculations, a single lost or damaged item of baggage can wipe out the profit from up to 30 sold tickets. "Nach dieser Rechnung mache also ein verlorenes oder beschädigtes Gepäckstück den Profit aus bis zu 30 verkauften Tickets zunichte," the report states. This makes clear how quickly a single incident can add up for an airline in operational terms.
