In the struggle over the reform of EU air passenger rights, the member states have abandoned their demand for longer thresholds and lower compensation for flight delays.

After weeks of negotiations with the European Parliament, representatives of the EU states withdrew their original demands, which would have been to the disadvantage of passengers. This was learned by the Deutsche Presse-Agentur from negotiating circles. According to this, travelers should in future also be entitled to compensation for delays of three hours or more.

Key points of the compromise

The member states had entered negotiations last year with the demand that passengers should only receive compensation for delays of four hours or more in future. According to reports, they no longer hold this position. The amount of compensation would also remain unchanged – around 400 euros for flights of up to 3,500 kilometers. Entitlement exists if the airline is responsible for the delay.
