In the night leading into Thursday, the sixth of a planned total of 152 Castor containers holding highly radioactive nuclear waste from the former Jülich research reactor arrived at the Ahaus interim storage facility.

Police in Münster confirmed the convoy's arrival at the Ahaus spent fuel interim storage facility. According to police in Münster, the transport proceeded without incidents. The heavy-duty transporter had carried the container via highways from the Jülich research site near Aachen to Ahaus in the Münsterland region.
This marks the sixth Castor transport as part of one of the largest nuclear waste relocation operations on the road in decades. A total of 152 Castor containers are to be transferred from Jülich to the Ahaus interim storage facility. The special containers hold approximately 300,000 spherical fuel elements from the former experimental reactor.
