Small plane crashes into residential house in Ganderkesee – both occupants dead

Representatives of the municipality of Ganderkesee expressed their dismay at the incident and offered their condolences to the relatives of the victims. Fire service emergency crews praised the rapid evacuation of the neighborhood. Within a few minutes, the surrounding houses had been cleared and the residents brought to safety. According to the current state of the investigations, no one who was not an occupant of the aircraft was injured.

According to eyewitness reports quoted by residents, neighbors reported a loud bang and a subsequent impact on the roof. Several people rushed out of the surrounding houses to help before rescue services arrived. The police asked witnesses to come forward with information.

The Bundesstelle für Flugunfalluntersuchung (BFU) has, according to its own information, opened investigations. Experts are to evaluate the flight data recorder and examine the wreckage in order to reconstruct the cause of the crash. A final investigation report is usually not expected for months.

There is great mourning in Ganderkesee. Candles and flowers were laid at the roadside in front of the residential house on the day after the accident. The municipality invited people to a minute of silence on the town hall square in the evening.

The police warn people to continue to avoid the area around the crash site. Residents are asked to follow the instructions of the emergency services. The exact number of damaged buildings is so far unclear.
