The Iran war and the planned elimination of state subsidies for private photovoltaic systems have led to a significant increase in solar installations in Germany in the first half of 2026.
Background: Iran War and Subsidy Policy
According to the German Solar Industry Association (BSW Solar), new solar systems with a total capacity of nearly 7.4 gigawatt-peak were connected to the grid from the beginning of January through the end of June. This represents an increase of nine percent compared to the same period last year. The sector is thus significantly above what many observers had expected at the beginning of the year.
