Cape Town, 11 July 2026
South African national team player Jayden Adams has been found dead at the age of 25; police in Cape Town have launched an investigation into the circumstances.
Body found in Cape Town suburb
The professional footballer's body was discovered on Saturday in a house in a suburb of Cape Town, as reported by the BBC, citing the South African police. A police spokesperson told the news agency AFP: "The circumstances of this incident are being investigated." The circumstances of Adams' death had not initially been made public.
Adams had only recently represented South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico. The midfielder took the field in all three group-stage matches for the "Bafana Bafana." In the round-of-16 exit against Canada (0:1), he sat on the bench for the full 90 minutes.
Career at Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana
At club level, Adams had been playing for Mamelodi Sundowns since 2025, one of South Africa's most successful clubs, based in Pretoria. With Sundowns, he won both the South African league title and, this year, the African Champions League. His contract there had only been in place since the beginning of 2025.
Adams had been part of the South African national team since January 2024, earning a total of nine caps for Bafana Bafana. Three of those came in the group stage of the World Cup. On the international transfer market, his overall value was most recently estimated at around €49.25 million.
