Darline Graham, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in South Carolina, told a debate audience that she is not well-versed in national security, a remark that quickly drew mockery on social media.

During a televised debate, South Carolina Democratic Senate candidate Darline Graham was asked about her national security knowledge. Graham said she was "just going to be honest here" and added, "I'm not … that informed on national security, so — but I do support the military," the South Carolina Democratic candidate said, noting her brother served in the Air Force and her dad in the Army.

The exchange, which was corroborated by four sources, marked a rare on-stage admission by a federal candidate about a perceived gap in policy expertise. Graham's comments came as moderators pressed the candidates on topics including Taiwan and the South China Sea.
