Spain's National Court has launched an investigation into former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero regarding potential financial misconduct connected to the 2021 government rescue of Plus Ultra airline.
The probe focuses on whether Zapatero, who left office in 2011, used political connections to facilitate the controversial 53 million euro ($62 million) bailout of Plus Ultra during COVID-19 recovery efforts. The airline, which specializes in flights between Spain and Latin America, received funds through the state industrial participation fund SEPI.
