In view of the expanded construction plans for the Google data center in Kronstorf, the SPÖ is calling for a revision of the Environmental Impact Assessment Act (UVP) in order to subject large infrastructure projects to stricter reviews.
After new, more extensive construction plans for the Google data center in Kronstorf (Upper Austria) became known, the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) has called for a revision of the UVP Act. The plans now envision development of the entire 50-hectare site, which would make the location one of the largest within the corporation.
SPÖ politician Julia Herr criticized that the power consumption of the future data center would be enormous. According to Austrian Power Grid (APG), the center would consume approximately as much electricity as around 900,000 households combined. Upper Austria has around 676,000 households.
