Kronstorf, 17 July 2026

A second expansion phase of the Google data center in Kronstorf in the Linz-Land district could, according to a report, reach an annual electricity consumption of up to 4.4 terawatt-hours.

The potential demand arises from a planned peak capacity of 500 megawatts, which Google cites as the maximum capacity for a full buildout of the site. If this second phase is realized, the site would, according to the available calculations, consume around 4.4 terawatt-hours per year. That corresponds to nearly a third of Upper Austria's total electricity consumption of 14 terawatt-hours in 2024.
