Berlin, October 23, 2026

Representatives of Germany’s federal states called for reliable implementation of the electricity tax cut and swift relief on electricity and fuel in Berlin on October 22, 2026.

The federal states made their expectations of the federal government clear. The central issue is whether the announced electricity tax cut will actually be implemented for everyone and therefore appear politically reliable.

Gordon Schnieder and Olaf Lies described implementing the electricity tax cut for everyone as a central question of political “reliability.” Olaf Lies is co-chair of the Conference of State Premiers and the head of government of Lower Saxony.

Reliability as a political issue

The states are demanding swift relief in fuel costs. They are addressing an issue that affects both mobility and households. The verified facts do not cite any specific measures or amounts.
