Level three warning for Innsbruck and the Tyrolean Lowlands

This was intended to prevent the situation that had developed on the Salzburg lakes from repeating itself in Tyrol. Residents and tourists in St. Wolfgang reported that boats and SUP boards had been driven to the shores within a short period of time. At Lake Wolfgang and Lake Mondsee, there were also disruptions to ship and ferry operations. The responsible authorities called on water sports enthusiasts to immediately stop using the lakes and to seek shelter on shore.

Lake Fuschl, a comparatively small but popular body of water among recreational sports enthusiasts, was also affected by the rescue operations. The combination of strong winds and summer bathing activity made the situation particularly challenging for emergency services. Divers and boats specifically searched the shoreline areas to ensure that no people were left behind in the water.

The authorities recommended avoiding the shoreline areas of the lakes in the evening and overnight, and placing emergency calls only through the official control centers. GeoSphere Austria announced that it would continue to monitor the warning situation and adjust warning levels if necessary. For the coming hours, decreasing winds but continued unsettled weather were expected.

The rescue teams expressed satisfaction with the course of the operations but emphasized that the rapid weather intensification had exposed the limits of early detection. They pointed out that the orange warning in Tyrol was intended to prevent exactly the scenario that had occurred on the Salzburg lakes.
