A severe storm front passed north of Tyrol on Thursday, leading to rescue operations on several lakes in Salzburg and the adjacent Upper Austrian Salzkammergut region.

On Thursday evening, a pronounced thunderstorm and storm system moved north of Tyrol and instead hit the lake landscape around Salzburg. The consequences were most clearly felt at Lake Wolfgang, Lake Mondsee, and Lake Fuschl, where emergency services had to deploy for several rescue operations. At Lake Fuschl, rescue operations were at the center of the response.

Those affected were primarily stand-up paddlers who capsized or got into difficulty due to the approaching wind. Along the shores of Lake Wolfgang, in St. Wolfgang, as well as on Lake Mondsee and Lake Fuschl in the municipality of Fuschl, rescue and safety measures took place in parallel. According to the operations command, rescue boats and divers were requested to recover people from the water and from boats.
