Summer weather persists at the start of meteorological autumn

According to the available forecasts, sunshine predominates in the Alpine foothills and along the main Alpine ridge. In the classic hiking regions and on the higher vantage peaks, late-summer conditions continue to prevail.

In northeastern Austria – from Lower Austria via Vienna to Burgenland – more clouds appear instead. There, isolated brief showers may occur in the afternoon, which according to the models will, however, dissipate again quickly.

The wind is mostly only light, at times moderate from a southerly direction in the foehn valleys in the south. For everyday life, this means hardly any restrictions according to the meteorologists.

Also for the coming days, no significant weather change is currently indicated by the forecasts. The summer weather phase that has already begun this week thus continues at the start of autumn.

Outlook for the weekend

On Saturday and Sunday, conditions remain predominantly sunny and warm according to the available models. Only in the course of the new week could the character of the weather begin to align more closely with the typical autumn pattern, according to the meteorologists' assessments.

The current values are part of the ongoing weather week, in which a stable high-pressure pattern has now established itself following a changeable start to summer in August. This is also accompanied by a relaxation in river levels, which in some cases had still been elevated in the previous days.

Impacts on everyday life and agriculture

For agriculture, however, the ongoing dryness means a strain in some regions. In eastern Austria, reports from recent days have indicated discussion about drought stress in late-ripening crops in some areas.

Overall, however, the positive impression predominates for the population: sunny late-summer days at the end of the holiday period, offering one more opportunity for excursions, mountain tours or visits to bathing lakes.
