Hagatna, Guam, 05 July 2026
Super Typhoon Bavi is forecast to make its closest approach to Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands on Monday morning local time, threatening the U.S. Pacific territories with potentially catastrophic damage, the National Weather Service said.
Government officials warned on Sunday that the storm would move to its closest point to Guam and bring the most catastrophic impacts Monday morning local time. On Sunday, Super Typhoon Bavi was moving north with maximum sustained winds of 165 miles per hour, according to Guam's Joint Information Center. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center estimated that Bavi's winds could strengthen to 180 miles per hour as the system passes over the islands, a threshold that would place it in the major category five range. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center designates tropical cyclones with sustained winds of 150 miles per hour or greater within the western north Pacific as super typhoons.
