According to a representative Marketagent survey conducted by the Krüger Group with 1,500 respondents, stress affects the eating behavior of 71 percent of Austrians, with the connection being significantly more pronounced among Generation Z at around 84 percent than among baby boomers.
How does Austria eat – and under what conditions does everyday life at the plate change? A representative survey conducted in spring 2026 by the market research company Marketagent on behalf of the food company Krüger Group GmbH provides new data on this. According to the findings, 71 percent of the 1,500 respondents say that stress influences their eating behavior. This is bringing everyday pressures more sharply into focus for nutrition research in Austria.
The connection is particularly pronounced among younger people: in Generation Z, around 84 percent recognize a clear influence of time pressure and tension on their diet. Among baby boomers, this figure is significantly lower at about 40 percent. The results suggest that stressors such as time pressure and mental tension play a greater role in the choice and frequency of meals in younger age groups.
