The industry organization Alliance Swisspass has slightly moderated the planned price increase for the Generalabonnement (GA) and ticket prices at the beginning of 2026, following criticism from politicians and consumer protection groups.
Originally, Alliance Swisspass had announced a significantly larger surcharge on the Generalabonnement as well as on individual tickets and discounted tickets. After discussions with the federal government, cantons, and transit alliances, the step has now turned out to be smaller. The industry organization initially did not publish specific percentage figures or franc amounts; it justified the remaining surcharge with inflation and increased expenses.
The increase remains necessary in order to cover inflation and the rising costs for personnel, energy, materials, and maintenance, Alliance Swisspass stated. Transit alliances and transport companies therefore continue to feel pressure to factor their expenditures into the fare structure.
