The Swiss National Bank (SNB) reported a profit of CHF 25 billion for the first half of 2026, driven primarily by gains on its equity positions and favorable exchange rate developments.
The Swiss National Bank (SNB) looks back on an extremely profitable first half of 2026. As the monetary policy institution announced on Thursday, the profit amounted to around CHF 25 billion. This once again makes the SNB one of the most successful central banks worldwide, measured by the ratio of profit to balance sheet total.
According to the information provided, the half-year result was supported significantly by two factors. On the one hand, the equity positions in the SNB's portfolio rose noticeably. On the other hand, in the bank's own words, the gains were further supported by favorable exchange rate developments: "Neben den Kursgewinnen auf den Aktienpositionen wurden die Gewinne noch von einer günstigen Entwicklung der Wechselkurse unterstützt."
